Inaripatii- The Wings

November 2nd, 2015

The Wings.docxI have never been very fond of the human kind. Too plain for my taste, too dull. I did however follow their wars and quarrels from time to time when on greater scale and now and then my curiosity took over when it came to their bizarre traditions. That must have been my destiny for that is how it all started. And that is how I met him.

Harmless Curses

October 26th, 2015

Harmless curses.docxBeautiful title for a wicked article isn’t it? Because this article will be wicked in every way possible. Halloween is knocking on our doors and I could not possibly let this opportunity pass without some naughtiness.

Bram Stoker International Film Festival

October 23rd, 2015

vlad_draculFor almost as long as there have been feature films, there have been vampire films. The first of it’s kind Nosferatu or “Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens” as it was was originally titled being released in 1922. Although there are now very few copies of this film due to a long and difficult battle over copy write it is regarded as one of the most influential masterpieces in cinema. Stories about vampires have captivated audiences for hundred of years, with the novel Nosferatu was based on, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, celebrating it’s 125th anniversary this year.

Werewolf Killings Part Two.

October 16th, 2015

Werewolf killings part 2.docxThere was a complete chaos at the City Hall. The crime scene was surrounded by at least a dozen reporters and hundreds of civilians. I barely managed to reach my Crime Scene Investigation team. All I could think of was the body. I wanted to see the body. I needed to see that body! That was the only way to discover if I was the criminal.

My Halloween

October 5th, 2015

My Halloween.docxI wanted to write a special bloody, dark article for Halloween. But, when I thought more about it I realised that my articles are always dark and twisted so I wouldn’t be able to make it special in that manner. The only way I could make this article special was to share with you what Halloween actually means to me and in doing so perhaps you could tell me what Halloween means to you.

Vampire or Werewolf?

September 30th, 2015

IVampire versus Werewolft’s the ultimate question, isn’t it? Do you choose a vampire or a werewolf as your ideal partner? Cold or hot? Night or day? A wolf or a bat? It’s basically choosing between two completely different characters, though both are nocturnal and have a lust for blood, both are very dangerous and quite unpredictable and both are…well…let’s just say lethal in every way possible!

I have never been able to choose between vampires and werewolves. Though I am sure a lot of you think the answer must be obvious.

I must decide once and for all, but how?

Werewolf Killings

September 10th, 2015

Werewolf killingsI was lying on the kitchen floor when I woke up.  That wasn’t the main issue. The first thing I faced when I opened my eyes was the blood on my hands. I slowly sat up feeling the usual headache and I panicked when I realized my clothes and the floor were all covered in blood.

So Long Wes, and Thanks for the Nightmares!

September 4th, 2015

a-nightmare-on-elm-street-posterIt’ll probably surprise nobody to learn that many of us here at Alchemy are keen horror fans. So we were very saddened to hear of the recent death of the director Wes Craven. The extensive coverage of his passing is an indication, not just of how well respected Wes was, but also how much more respectable horror has become in recent years. The UK’s Guardian newspaper, for example – not previously enthusiastic about horror films – dedicated no less than five pieces to the director on the day his death was announced. kruger-hand

Lessons in Lunacy and Lycanthropy

August 25th, 2015

TWerewolf1he first weekend of September will witness an intriguing first, in the shape of Britain’s only ever academic werewolf conference. Held at the University of Hertfordshire, and entitled ‘The Company of Wolves: Sociality, Animality, and Subjectivity in Literary and Cultural Narratives – Werewolves, Shapeshifters, and Feral Humans’, attendees can hear papers with intriguing titles like ‘Wolf Children’, ‘The Sound of the Cinematic Werewolf’, and ‘Werewolves and Paranormal Romance’. Other events include a visit to the 18th century grave of a local ‘wolf boy’, a lycanthropic antique magic lantern show, and an opportunity to ‘walk with wolves’ at the nearby UK Wolf Conservation Trust.

Mera Luna 2015

August 18th, 2015

11846527_10155911068510022_3891164095220253000_nAlthough I have been to many German festivals before, this was the first time I sampled M’era Luna. Just a half hour from Hannover, this festival has been going since 2000 in its current incarnation (FKP Scorpio, the organsing body, previously ran this festival in conjunction with Zillo magazine, and decided to keep it on under the flag “M’era Luna” after the cooperation ended in 1999 – you can read my interview with the organisers here). Based at what appears to be a disused airport in Hildesheim, just a half hour from Hannover, it’s a relatively easy journey from the UK – although does
involve a train and bus from the Hannover airport. Another, slightly more fun option, would be to join the annual “Goths on a Bus” tour! Picking up from various spots around England and ferrying the black clad masses across the channel, ensures you’ll arrive ready for the party with your fellow goth horde. (see the facebook group to find out about next year’s trip)
