Bloody Teardrops

He told me I had blood on my mouth. I looked at him confused yet quite amused at his observation. ‘Your lip is bleeding,’ he insisted. Grinning I licked my lips clean and tasted once again the blood that wasn’t mine. The last drop of my most recent sustenance.

There is more,’ said the man a little puzzled at my reaction. How could the poor thing possibly understand why I was so cheerful? Staring at him, I slowly wiped my mouth off with the back of my palm. We were sitting in a cabin, just the two of us, in the train to London’s splendid King’s Cross. I had been sitting in this train alone for hours and when my victim, a very young man, had entered this cabin, and no one else was around, I just couldn’t help myself. I enjoyed him like I enjoy a glass of Chardonnay and then I threw his body out of the carriage door. Then this man entered my cabin and I could not help myself from thinking that a second meal was being served. But I wasn’t that hungry anymore and I never killed for pleasure.

‘Perhaps this will help,’ said the gentleman offering me a white handkerchief. I noticed he wore a beautiful ring, resembling some kind of device. I gracefully took the handkerchief from him and wiped my mouth clean. Blood stained the delicate material.

‘Thank you,’ I said giving him back the handkerchief. He had no idea who I was, what I was and where I was going. He had no idea that if he had been the first man to enter this cabin, he would be a bloodless corpse by now. He had no idea…
‘Please, you may keep it,’ he smiled at me. ‘Something to remember me by.’
‘You are too kind,’ I replied. I looked at his face and realised that he was a handsome fellow. His eyes were as brown and sweet as chestnuts and his hair was long, soft and hazel brown.
‘Perhaps a name that comes with this handkerchief would make me remember you even better, sir.’
He grinned at me, as if he knew something I didn’t. . .
